• OAXACAN ANIMAL CARVING


Childrens Art Classes Facilitated by Otterspace Arts Otterspace Arts is directed and implemented by Mary Beth Fletcher and Jen Rosen. Both women are seasoned educators who each hold California Teaching Credentials for the elementary school level, as well as Master of Fine Arts degrees. Both women have worked together extensively as traveling art, music, and drama teachers for the public schools. Together they have over 30 years of teaching experience.

The women are both exhibiting artists and are founders of the environmental circus troupe, The Green Something Circus. Mary Beth is also a graduate of Ringing Clown College. Both women are veteran musicians and perform locally in a six-woman folk band called Sugar Mountain Mama Serenade.

Still Life July 12 - 3-6pm grades 1-6 $20
This course introduces students to the artwork of Vincent Van Gogh. Students will create their own still life modeling Van Gogh's use of color and light

Rock Art July 26 - 3-6pm grades 1-6 $20
This course introduces students to the history of ancient rock art. In this class each student will carve their own rock art tile that tells a story through symbolic imagery. Students will also experience how the native peoples created paint and
paintbrushes with local rocks/ minerals and plants.

Printmaking August 9 - 3-6pm grades 1-6 $20
Learn about different kinds of printmaking and create your own personal printers block. In this course students will have the opportunity to design and print with their own block using colored inks, rollers, and paper. They will make multiple prints that will be numbered and signed.

Oaxacan Animal Carving August 23 - 3-6pm grades 1-6 $20
Students will learn about the art and life of Zenny Fuentez, a Mexican woodcarver and painter. Students will have the opportunity to carve their own Oaxacan style animal creations out of foam and then paint them.


WEDNESDAYS
ART CLASSES FOR TEENS & ADULTS


Restorative Yoga 6-7:30pm $15/session

- save if you pay $45 for 4 consecutive sessions. Restorative Yoga is the practice of conscious body/mind relaxation. When supported with props, the body relaxes and opens, releasing tension and stored-up toxins that can cause illness.
Restorative poses offer benefits to both the body and mind, for conditions ranging from insomnia to asthma to chronic pain to migraines to depression.

Poetic Style
2 sessions: 4-5pm or 5-6pm $5/session

Hosted by Speak Child’s David Oliver Aka Judah
This is an introduction to various styles of poetry. Discover innovative ways to put your passion on paper. Spend time working on the elements of action, imagery, personification, rhyme and rhythm. From Sonnets, free verse, bop, haiku,
simile, metaphor, sestinas and beyond, this workshop gives you a broad overview of poetical form. Sharpen your writing skills and discover the multiple dimensions of written expression.


THURSDAYS
Skateboard Design & Silkscreen 4-7pm

Not available the 2nd Thursday of each month $15/session, includes materials cost
Basic techniques of silkscreen printing are introduced. Students leave with finished print or tshirt. Skateboard workshop covers design and demonstration of unique transfer technique to skateboards.

Live On Stage (4pm-6pm) $5/session
Hosted by Speak Child’s David Oliver Aka Judah
1. Get on stage and develop the skills needed to become a polished performer. Gain confidence, increase your stage presence, learn how to speak with more power and volume. We encourage, support, guide and inspire our youth to perform their work and get exposure to spoken word.

Students develop and strengthen their figurative skills through observation of live models and staged environments.
