Dear Friends of The dA,

Did you know that The dA Gallery is now officially named
“The dA Center for the Arts?”

An art center by definition is distinct from an art gallery or museum. It has the specific goals of making the arts accessible to the community and encouraging arts practice. We at the dA are taking this to heart and we want to expand our art programming in new and exciting ways that will bring enriching art opportunities to the local area and the greater dA community.

It goes without saying, that The dA has gone through many changes over the past couple years. Some of them have been difficult and sad, while other changes have given us a strong foundation to build on that is very positive. Those of us committed to the mission of The dA are focused on the positive, and we also acknowledge that this special art center has a voice of its own. We are listening, and ready to heed the call.

We have the people, the place, and now we need the funding. You may look at The dA and think, wow, they're doing great. Things look good on the surface, but that is due to board members, the devoted staff, and volunteers, who sacrifice time and money beyond the call of duty. In order for us to go forward with our new programming as a viable art center, we really do need your help.

We are looking to initiate programs that will help us help others. One goal we need assistance with is starting a screen printing business at The dA. This will mean we can print T-shirts for local businesses, offer artists the chance to do mono-prints and multiples of their art, and host screen printing workshops. Having a viable business within The dA means we can bring in revenue to start an apprenticeship program for at-risk youth. Again, we have people willing to do the work, we just need a helping hand to get things started.

Your gift will also help us get the word out with our newsletter and website. It takes time and money to stay in touch, but it is so important. Our list of needs has expanded, but that translates as progress.

The dA Center for the Arts will be celebrating 25 years of community service in June 2009. During our birthday month the art exhibit will honor our members. In the main gallery we will host a “Members Only Show,” and the Joan Weldon Gallery will host a past and current board member’s art exhibit, with a special president’s corner. We’d like to have a yearbook ready for our anniversary, and with your support we can do it.

Thank you in advance for helping The dA carry on our mission for another 25 years of art fun!
