August is a perfect time to think back many years to the carefree days of childhood. Curator A. S. Ashley, King of Theme Art Shows, has asked artists to think back and create ART.
This is truly a dream theme for artists who, as we know, dream a lot. Mention it to an artist and you’ll see them venture off to Never-Never-Land. Included in this theme are childhood obsessions: what were you obsessed with as a child; and has it defined who you are today?

This Open exhibit will have the full gamut of mediums on display: photos; drawings, paintings; sculpture; assemblages; combines; performance; video; and installations; a truly multimedia extravaganza that will make any Freudian nervous!

The exhibit also includes a separate wing (the Joan Weldon Gallery) reserved exclusively for the showing of artist's traditional pony pictures (or interpretations of the same); or depictions of themselves as children, mounted on top of any other animal (such as elephants, pet dogs, donkeys, camels,…even the toy version of animals).

Oh, and if you were one of the unfortunate kids who didn’t get a pony photo for posterity, well it’s never too late. Additionally, Ashley will have two live miniature ponies on site opening night, for the purpose of replicating the 'pony picture' experience; including all the western gear needed to make the scene complete! No matter how many critics show up, there will be at least two horses’ asses in attendance!

Gallery hours: Wednesday through Saturday, Noon to 5pm (and by appointment). www.dacenter.org
