Simply Red

SimplyRed-2015-Call-for-Art1.jpg

February 13-17, 2016

The dA Center for the Arts is hosting a preview benefit fundraiser on Friday, February 12, 2016 in conjunction with their time-honored Simply Red exhibition. The origin of the “Simply Red” exhibition dates back to the late 80′s at the original dA Gallery location on Garey Avenue. The aim was to find a theme for a group show in which everyone could participate while loosely coupling it with Valentine’s Day, its correlating holiday and most importantly, hope to help artists see a red dot next to their work which indicates SOLD! All for The Love of ART!

This year the theme for the dA benefit fundraiser is “Simply Red/ Simply Wed” promoting a marriage between Art & Community. The dA Center for the Arts is located in downtown Pomona, CA. and plays a vital role to nurture, and connect the underserved residents of this low-income community by providing a place where the arts insect with the community to create a positive change.

Victor Frias & Everyone is a two-part exhibition series curated by Devon Tsuno & Seth Pringle that investigates, elaborates and celebrates the drawings of First Street Gallery studio artist Victor Frias. Through collaboration and public engagement, this project is designed to create a rich dialogue of cross-pollination with this uniquely talented artist serving as the central axis. Frias creates enigmatic renderings of found imagery combined with a cast of characters drawn from his expansive imagination and appreciation for the absurd, psychedelic and macabre.

The dA Center for the Arts, in collaboration with First Street Gallery Art Center, presents Victor Frias & Everyone (Part II), which opens at the dA Center for the Arts in Pomona Saturday, June 4,2016. A diverse cadre of artists from across Southern California have been invited to make and present work using Frias’ creations as a reference or inspiration.

Artists: Tania Jazz Alvarez, Joshua Callaghan, Daniela Campins, Mike Flower, Evan Hynes, Curt Lemieux, John Lund, Matt MacFarland, Nuttaphol Ma, Amy Maloof, Ryan Perez, Yoshie Sakai, Tessie Salcido Whitmore, Kate Sikorski, Mercedes Teixido, Trina Turturici & Matt Wardell.

The exhibit runs from June 4th to July 23rd 2016.
